AWKA, NIGERIA — In a major political development ahead of the 2025 Anambra State governorship election, Evangelist Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer, securing a decisive win in the party’s primary election held in Awka.
The results were announced in the early hours of Sunday, April 6, 2025, by the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee and Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, who served as the chief returning officer.
The tightly monitored election, which took place at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center, saw Ukachukwu sweep the majority of the votes, winning with a commanding 1,455 votes out of 1,630 total votes cast.
Official Results:
- Nicholas Ukachukwu – 1,455 votes
- Valentine Ozigbo – 67 votes
- Johnbosco Onunkwo – 26 votes
- Edozie Madu – 8 votes
- Invalid votes – 26
The event, which extended through the night, was witnessed by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including the Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Queen Elizabeth Agwu, and other party dignitaries.
In his acceptance speech, Prince Ukachukwu thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ensuring a hitch-free, transparent electoral process within the party. He also expressed appreciation to the APC National Working Committee, the election committee, fellow aspirants, and all delegates for their support.
“I have been instrumental to the emergence of successive governors in Anambra over the years. I have played the role of a godfather, but now, I am ready to father myself,” Ukachukwu remarked, in a powerful reflection on his long-standing political journey.
He called on fellow aspirants to set aside their differences and unite behind his candidacy, stressing that the collective goal should now be to deliver Anambra to the APC in the November 8 general election.
The APC State Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, also commended the national and state working committees, security agencies, and the aspirants for their maturity, and urged party members to stay united and focused.
Ukachukwu’s victory represents a significant turning point in his tumultuous political career, which has seen him switch affiliations across multiple parties including PDP, PPA, HDP, and APGA in past election cycles. Often described as a resilient political contender, he has previously contested for the governorship and Senate seats, with limited success.
Despite years of political setbacks and legal battles—such as the nullification of his 2019 APGA senatorial candidacy—Ukachukwu remains determined to fulfill his ambition of becoming the executive governor of Anambra State.
Now standing as the official APC candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu is set to challenge incumbent Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of APGA in what many analysts predict will be one of the fiercest electoral battles in the state’s recent history.
The stage is set. The race has begun.
