An 18-year-old apprentice in Anambra State has reportedly impregnated 10 girls within a five-month period, including his master’s daughter and a salesgirl. The incident has raised significant concern among state officials and the public.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, disclosed the case during a live social media broadcast. She expressed deep concern over the situation, stating that it was beyond her capacity to handle alone and sought advice from the public.
According to Commissioner Obinabo, the apprentice was sent to learn a trade but was dismissed from his apprenticeship after impregnating his master’s daughter and a salesgirl within three months. After returning to his village, he allegedly impregnated eight more girls in the subsequent two months.
The boy’s mother reported the matter to the commissioner’s office, expressing distress over the situation. She mentioned that she becomes anxious whenever she sees a girl approaching their house, fearing another incident.
Commissioner Obinabo questioned whether the boy’s behavior might have spiritual undertones, given the unusual nature and rapid succession of the incidents. She also noted that the boy claimed to have told the girls he loved them and intended to marry them once he became wealthy.
This case has sparked discussions about youth behavior, sexual education, and the need for parental and community guidance in Anambra State. Authorities are seeking comprehensive solutions to address such issues and prevent future occurrences
